It was a bit dodgy weather-wise (persistant showers), but in the end sunshine and blue skies won out. Te Horo School’s annual country fair was a tad muddy underfoot but the atmosphere was warm, buzzy with people and great music.

Visitors arrived with the gate’s opening, and School Road was fringed with hundreds of cars for most of the day. The traditional fundraising event for the school harnesses the community spirit, involving local businesses and families.

“It was wonderful to see so many of our parents, children, uncles, aunties, grandparents, ex students and their families, friends and people from the wider community attending,” said principal, Craig Vidulich.

Star of the fair was undoubtedly ‘Blue Jeans,’ a two year old Belgian Blue cow. ‘Blue Jeans’ was a little rounder than usual, she was due to give birth next month, but dutifully delivered the infamous cow pat. The cow pat bingo (entrants gamble on where exactly the cow will answer the call of nature) was won by Kellie Mears.

The final fundraising total was $24,500, “a fantastic sum of money for our school.”
