On the 14th of March, 4 teams from Te Kura ā Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano participated in the Wellington Secondary Schools Regional Waka Ama competition, held in Porirua. 23 colleges participated from the Hutt Valley, to the greater Wellington Region, the Western and Eastern suburbs of Wellington, to Porirua through to the Kapiti Coast.
The races involved 250m 1 man waka ama and the 6 man 250m & 500m sprints.
For the 6 man contest, restults were:
- Whakatupuranga Rua mano J16 Boys had two teams:
Kapumanawawhiti: 1st in 250m and 500m
Maiotaki: 2nd 250m and 3rd 500m - Whakatupuranga Rua mano
J16 Girls Huia: 1st 250 & 500m - Whakatupuranga Rua mano
J19 Girls Korokī: 1st 250 & 500m
For the 1 man and woman Waka Ama:
- Whakatupuranga Rua mano
J19 Girls singles Ariana Ransom 2nd 250m - Whakatupuranga Rua mano
J16 singles Kaylin Doyle 2nd 250m Kauri Aroha Tapine – Miller -

These teams will be participating in the National Secondary Schools Waka Ama Championships next week in Rotorua.Where the Whakatupuranga Rua mano J19 Girls are the current defending National Champions from 2014 for the 250 & 500m. Te Kura ā Iwi o Whakatupuranga Rua Mano successful Waka Ama competitors have a lot to be cheerful about!
