This year the second recipient of the Marjorie Gordon Memorial Trophy was Alana Maramena Fraser, Head Girl, Otaki College 2014. The Otaki Community Health Trust has committed to this annual scholarship for pupils at Otaki College who will pursue a career in health.
Alana has attended Otaki College since year 9 after previously attending Te Korowai Whakamana total Maori immersion unit within Otaki Primary School. Alana has always had a passion for sport which has seen her represent NZ for the last 4 years in age grade Touch and this year in the NZ Under 19 Womens Team to play Australia in January. She has also been selected in the NZ netball development programme and has played representative and premier netball in the Horowhenua and Manawatu netball competitions. This love of sport has led her to have a keen interest in health and well being generated from her high training regime and dietary considerations. As a result of this Alana has chosen to attend Otago University in 2015 to undertake the 1st year Health Sciences course. Upon completion of her first year her results will then dictate which pathway she continues to follow but she is certainly heading into the health sector.
Alana is extremely grateful for this award and will be utilising the funds from this to help in the purchase of text books. Alana and her parents wish to pass on their sincere thanks to the Otaki Community Health Trust for this award and financial assistance, it is greatly appreciated.
