Main Stret hosts Xmas celebration

Otaki will have an opportunity to enjoy some Christmas cheer on 28 November with a Main Street celebration.

The Friday night event – from 5-9pm – will be focused on music entertainment in Memorial Park next to the Civic Theatre. There will also be stalls, entertainment for the kids, and of course, Father Christmas on the fire engine.

The west end of Main Street will be closed between Matene Street and Rangiuru Road/Te Rauparaha Street.

Organiser Carol Ward of the Otaki Promotions Group says it’s a celebration in which locals can come into the village and enjoy the evening.

“On the stage in Memorial Park we’ll have a big backing band supporting talented vocalists who will sing a range of popular songs, including some with a Christmas theme,” Carol says. “We’re encouraging people to come down with a deck chair or blanket, and bring their own picnic or enjoy what the stalls and local eateries have to offer.

“We just want people to soak up the atmosphere. It’s an event for the whole community, no matter what age.”
