Transport needs in focus

Ōtaki Community Board has committed to continue pressing Greater Wellington Regional Council to improve public transport services for the town.

GWRC representatives came to the Community Board meeting last month and Chair James Cootes said the board looked forward to working further on some relatively-easy solutions that could be achieved in the short-term.

Mr Cootes says the board, along with Ōtaki Ward Councillor Penny Gaylor, will be “pressing to get GWRC to deliver on their promise 14 months ago that they could refine the Ōtaki bus route to have a ‘quick’ win to improve the appeal and efficiency of the route.

The Local Government Commission has also indicated it and the Wellington Regional Mayoral Forum have been collaborating on how councils can work together on important local government services, with transport one of the priorities.
