In October I was lucky enough to be chosen by the New Zealand China Friendship Society to go to China with a delegation to look at health services.
Our main focus was traditional Chinese medicine and how it is used in association with western medicine. We experienced the grandeur of the Beijing Hospital and its associated Traditional Chinese medicine hospital and university as well as smaller provincial hospitals and country clinics.
A trip to the medicinal herb market with its smell and strange dried products was memorable. Most memorable was the pride the health workers took in their work, the belief they had in TCM and how welcomed they made us feel. It was a very special time for six health workers to experience.
