The Council, through its Cycleways, Bridleways and Walkways project, is laying a new stretch of footpath on Waitohu Valley Road, Ōtaki. The new pathway, from the intersection of Greenwood Boulevard, will link to the existing footpath on Waitohu Valley Road. Work is expected to be completed mid next month.
A new wall has been completed on Freemans Road to replace the one damaged in the June storm. An unknown person has added a little augmentation on the grass behind it.
The Council has completed safety improvements at the Aotaki Street/Kirk Street intersection in response to community concerns about safety there.
Sixty people signed a petition to the Community Board calling for action after several accidents at the intersection and reports from a local resident that vehicles had come through the fence of his property, and he feared for the safety of his family.
Community Board Chair James Cootes says the residents’ concerns were taken very seriously and the improvements fast-tracked.
“Council has installed a give way sign, improved road markings and street lighting and created a pedestrian island. Traf c engineers will be monitoring the intersection to determine whether further traf c calming measures are needed.”
