Ocean View Newsletter, May 2016

Hello again from the staff and residents at Ocean View.

As we look out of the dining room windows we can see the beginnings of  the Autumn season – low clouds hanging over the hills, the brown and red hues of the leaves on the trees and bushes, and of course the cooler temperatures.

What is happening here at the home by the seaside?  It was with sadness that we bade farewell to our Facility Manager, Sue Mareikura, on Friday 8th April.  Sue has taken up another position up in Palmerston North and we wish her well in her new venture.  We also sadly bade farewell to Mario Stella at the beginning of March.  We have welcomed in 2 new residents in the past month: Eilleen Ireland and Dale Swainson, both from Ōtaki.

I, Cynthia Powell, the Clinical Nurse Manager, will be standing in as Acting Facility Manager until such time as we get a new Manager.  I have been here at Ocean View for a year now and have enjoyed my time here.  I hail from South Africa and have 26 years’ experience in the Aged Care field; nine of those being here in New Zealand.

In the past 2 months the residents have had several outings, namely, a trip up to Fielding to visit a past resident, 1 resident was taken down to Te Papa to see the Gallipoli display as family members were very much involved in that event, movies at Body & Soul, and this past weekend to the Vera Lyn Concert,

Recently one of our residents celebrated a birthday and some of the ladies made icing flowers to go on the cake.  Excellent job to those involved.

MY16_Ocean-View-certYesterday, Monday 18th, 8 of the residents attended the 2016 Kapiti Rest Homes Bowls Competition.  Ocean View received 2nd place in the best dressed team (Theme this year was “Buttons & Bows.”

Well done team.

Until next time,
Cynthia Powell
Acting Facility Manager.
