Two weeks earlier the interschool annual cross country event was held at Haruatai Park. 200 kids in years four to eight covered distances of 1000 and 2000 metres, resulting in some close finishes and fast times.
Te Horo School took line honours and an almost clean sweep of the races, winning the year four and five boys and girls races, year six girls, year seven girls and year eight boys with Fletcher Carpenter from Waitohu completing the boy’s 2000 metre race in 9.9 minutes. Vince Tahiwi-McMillan from WRM took the year seven boys and Otaki College’s Karen Su the year eight girls.
Te Horo’s winners were: Olivia Haines and Oliver Parkinson the year four titles, Nathan Sparrow and Niketa Allen taking the year five honours, Bria Fitzgerald girls year six, Holly O’Sullivan girls year seven and Jay Nutting boys year eight.
All competitors who finished in the top six were eligible to enter the Kapiti Schools Ellis Cup cross country competition the following week.
