Perfect weather prevailed in Otaki on Friday when Lord and Lady Galway paid an official visit. The town appeared at its best, and flags were prominent along the streets, on various buildings, and at the rest resort, school grounds, and elsewhere. It was certainly a red-letter day for Otaki and residents from far and near attended in numbers. On arrival at 2 pm, the Governor-General and Lady Galway were met at the school gates by Mr and Mrs O’Rourke (Mayor and Mayoress), councillors and their wives, members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Girl Guides, and the general public, while the school children were lined up near the school buildings. “God Save the King” was rendered and the Otaki Brass Band, under Bandmaster Fielding, played selections…. During the day cameras clicked in all directions, while flash-light photographs were taken at the theatre.
