After a very busy March, the Ōtaki Players committee and members have an opportunity to catch their breath ready for the next few months.
Rehearsals for Rent are underway with all cast members busy learning songs, both soloists and group numbers, the Wednesday/Thursday boys are starting on the set and the production crew are already preparing for charity nights, billboards and posters and costumes. Musical director Graham Orchard is getting is orchestra together – yes Ōtaki Players is one of the few theatre groups to be able to muster an orchestra and live music, as against backing tracks. Graham is currently seeking a lead guitarist. Show dates are July 27 to August 13.
The Ōtaki Rotary Club’s Vera Lynn shows were popular and were well received. They will use funds from the two shows to finance their projects around the Ōtaki distrtct.
There have been various comments on the new downstairs seating, particularly access for older people we hope to have made some small alterations before our next production.
Although we’ve still got two shows hitting the stage this year, the committee is already looking ahead to 2017. This will be the 70th anniversary of the Ōtaki Players Society, so we hope to bring a varied programme to you. We are looking to start the year with either one act plays or a short play, this would need to work around the Maoriland Film Festival over the last weekend in March. If anyone is interested in directing a play or a one act show, please contact the theatre 06 3646491and leave a message.
With the cooler days drawing in, keep busy, warm and happy — remember a smile uses 25per cent less muscle than a frown!!
