Two favourite shrubs to delight you in winter are available this month which the birds and bees love

F_JUL15_garden-teh-dichroa2Dichroa – The Evergreen Hydrangea with its spectacular bright blue florets on a large pompom flower reminiscent of the hydrangea and followed by metallic purple-blue berries. Bunches last long in a vase and the bees love it. From Asia, grows 1-2 metres.

 

 

JUL15_garden-teh-Garra-elliptica2Garrya Elliptica – the Silk Tassel Bush with cascading catkins of creamy flowers in winter.

 The flowers turn grey as they age and are followed by purple fruit which the birds love. American native, evergreen, grows 3m.
